Caroline Hammond

Singer Songwriter Storyteller

'Caroline Hammond is a Singer / Songwriter of insight, honesty & earthiness. Artful, lyrical and evocative, her music is still essentially about the magic of ordinary things.'

On stage at The Neurum Creek Festival "17 - P.Brandon Photo

Caroline has been singing for as long as she can remember. Growing up in the Australian outback, she learnt to harmonise with her brother, twin sister and parents on long drives down endless country roads in South West Queensland. The early 1990's saw her entry into the local Brisbane music scene singing & writing sings for several local bands & in the late 90's Caroline began a long & focussed study in Afro-Cuban percussion, rhythmic influences that still move through her original work, acoustic guitar and ukulele styles.

Caroline draws musical inspiration from a diverse range of musical genres from Blues to Gospel, Reggae, African 'hi-life' and coffee house folk. Lyrically her songs are an intimate observation of time, life, relationships & the natural world. every dive’s a diamond

Caroline's first CD "Songs From Three Stories Up" 2007, quickly sold out it's limited run. In 2013 the CD project "Between the Shoreline and the Moon" brought together Craig Claxton (guitar), Suzanne Hibbs (drums/percussion), Kevin Howard (bass) & Angela Toohey (backing vocals) as The Caroline Hammond Band, dynamic and sensitive players bringing a band energy to this release which received critical acclaim & considerable airplay & was feature CD of the week on 612ABC radio soon after its launch.

The newest addition to the collection, "One More Trip Around The Sun" 2016, is an exploration of the songs and the art of songwriting in 'roots-storytelling' mode. A solo project, Caroline worked closely with producer Michael Fix to find a vehicle which best suited this collection of stories and songs and Caroline's resonant emotive voice. The result - beautiful, organic and memorable, this is acoustic music to move the feet and the soul!

Artists on high rotation on her CD player (yes, she still uses a CD player) including Passenger, Colin Hay, Michael Franti, James Taylor, Oliver Mtukudzi & The Tedeschi Trucks Band.
